I have just reinstalled wordpress for the first time (a hacker added himself as admin somehow, even though I had set it so new users do not have admin access). I uploaded the newest version, and edited wp-config.php with all my correct info, but am getting this error trying to run wp-admin:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at server12.000webhost.com. This could mean your host's database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

Kind of ambiguous...is there a way to troubleshoot and see where the error is? I can log in to mysql via phpadmin just fine through my host, and have quadruple verified the info is correct...

All I can figure is that it's unable to connect to the mySQL server...is there some way to manually log into a my SQL server to verify it is working, ie...when FTP wouldn't work via the wordpress dashboard, I would log in via command line FTP to verify it was working (And that's how I discoverd that my host wouldn't allow certain characters in a password, but wouldn't tell you the password was invalid at the time of creation)
