is there a code to take the name of the page the code is on and to insert the post name instead, just so i could add this to my theme so that i don't have to do it manually each post.

Actually, that's how it's supposed to be i.e. on single post page, the title of the post automatically posted ... unless the code is not there or something else ... see the default theme or classic theme. Or, is there a confusion in semantics here? What theme are you using?
my theme is custom, however the code is on the page where you are thinking, but i would like to add it in smaller text above before the actual post with some other details e.g.
you are on -postname- blah blah blah
hope this clears things up :)
