Upgrading from 2.6.2' to 2.8.4 - quick question (5 posts)

I have held off from upgrading after managing to lose all my site data and functionality after the last time!

But I am biting the bullet and about to upgrade to 2.8.4

My question is, is it possible to upgrade automatically even though I have an older version? I am really scared about getting it wrong and breaking my site again!

    Any tips?

I have backed up my database in phpmyadmin just now and will copy my files onto my desktop beforehand.

Since you apparently had a bad experience last time you tried to upgrade, don't try any automated upgrade. Make sure your file and database backups are good and that you know how to restore them from scratch.

Once you do that, follow the manual extended upgrade instructions. Don't forget to deactivate all your plugins before trying to upgrade.

Hi, I just managed to upgrade and it worked!!!

The problem is now my comments don't show up due to an error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_wpuser_comment() in /home/jeni8686/public_html/wp-content/themes/JENIWREN/comments.php on line 16

Do I need to edit my comments.php or replace it with the new one in the theme directory of the wordpress 2.8.4?

    Thanks

See? That wasn't so bad! Glad it worked out for you. And now that you are using 2.8.4, I believe you can upgrade WP automatically from the dashboard now. :)
