Hello,
I'm ready to upgrade to 2.8.4, and I have two installations of WordPress (both 2.7.1.) on the same database.
This will be my first-ever upgrade, and I have a few questions:
- Should I upgrade both blogs at the same time?
- Should I upgrade them in any particular order?
- Will upgrading one upgrade the other automatically? (I assume not)
- Is there anything else I should know/keep in mind here?
Thanks so much in advance!
Hi
Although you are using one database, each blog has its own set of tables within that database, so its just like having two unrelated WP installations.
- Should I upgrade both blogs at the same time?
suggested but not required
- Should I upgrade them in any particular order?
doesn't matter
- Will upgrading one upgrade the other automatically? (I assume not)
won't
- Is there anything else I should know/keep in mind here?
make sure you back up your database before you upgrade. If you don't already have it installed, suggest installing the wp-db-backup plugin on both sites as its the easiest way to back up.

Thanks very much! I just backed up the database (backed up both blogs' tables separately), so I think I'm ready to go!

How long should it take for WordPress to download the update if I'm doing an automatic upgrade?
This message has been sitting on my screen for the past 5 minutes:
Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-2.8.4.zip
...with no progress bar or anything showing. Is this normal? Should I refresh the page and try again?
Could take a few minutes, but you might try again. If necessary, some hosting situations may need a manual upgrade as described in Installing WordPress.
Also the Core Control plugin can be used to 'diagnose' transport issues.
