    Hi,

I've just tried to upgrade (belatedly) to 3.2.1. After installation, my screen went blank. I can now no longer get into wp-admin (blank screen), or see my site.

I forgot to disable my plugins so perhaps it has something to do with that? Please help, I have no idea what to do and I'm very worried.

    Thnaks

you can disable plugins by renaming /plugins folder with ftp or host's file manager

what version did you upgrade from?

    Hi emmgibbs,

Try renaming plugins folder (through FTP or your web hosts File Manager). This will manually disable your plugins.

If that doesn't resolve the issue, try manually forcing WordPress to switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme folder name.

Let me know if this works for you.

Erm, I hadn't upgraded for a while, so it may have been two before this one?

Do I need to rename the plugins folder anything in particular? Sorry about this - I'm a bit new to all the more technical bits.

    plugins-old will work
if you're just 2 versions behind then the database likely isn't messed up

Thank you - will try that. Just to double check, so I'm not doing completely the wrong thing - I'm in my host's file manager, under wp-admin there's one saying plugins.php - I just click and change that, right?

    Sorry about this.

Okay, I've done that but it doesn't seem to be making a difference (unless I've done it in the wrong place?). Is there anything else i need to do after renaming it that I might be missing?

Also, I don't know if this has something to do with it, but I'm getting this on my simple scripts page in bluehost:

no no - wrong file name it back!

    you want a "folder"
look inside /wp-content folder and rename /plugins folder

    Hiya,

Oops, yes, realised (eventually) I had entirely the wrong one! I renamed the file but to no avail, so I've now renamed my theme file which has done the trick and I can get into wp-admin, but still not see anything on my site.

Is there something I need to do now?

Sorry for being such a pain and needing walking through.

I see a rather nice looking site

    try clearing your browser's cache
    go to home page
press Ctrl + F5 at same time

Thanks - I realised, with a bit of extra research, that my theme was causing problems so upgraded to the latest version. Unfortunately it means re-doing all the coding that I did ages ago, but I'm getting there! And so relieved that my content is all still here.

Thanks so much for your help, and for your patience, I really appreciate it.

    a tip
don't modify theme files - as you experienced changes are overwritten on an update

    use a child theme instead
