   I can not type a carriage return in the Visual editor. Do you have any idea what that means? It means I can't use WordPress. WHY did I update? WHY why why...

   This works for me on multiple sites.

   Start with turning off your plugins and switching to the default (twenty eleven) theme.

   It is probably a plugin or theme issue - ie specific to your site.
