I installed wordpress, configured wp-config, retained the assigned admin password, created a second admin level user and assigned password, started some very minimal configuration (eg changed the date presentation from US format to UK format. The phone rang. 20 mins later I clicked to save changes. The login screen appeared. "Oh, it's timed out I thought." I entered the admin username and password. "Incorrect password", it said!
I tried my second admin level username and password. Same result.
I've tried emailing new passwords for both users. The emails do not arrive.
Hmmm, now what?

Thanks to both of you. The fix worked of course but I'm puzzled as to why it happened. I have another blog running elsewhere which did exactly the same thing when I installed 2.8.4 over 2.7.1. I rolled back and re-installed several times and got the same effect every time. At the moment it's still running 2.7.1... I suppose it must be me. Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
Did you disable all the plugins before the upgrade?

No, never occurred to me although having just checked the documentation I see there is a remark to that effect. Dooh!
Silly question I'm sure but why would leaving the plug-ins enabled corrupt the admin password?
Anyway, I'll set aside some time to implement the upgrade again and see if I can get it right this time.
Thanks for your help.
