Uploaded media going to a 404 page after toying with Permalinks (7 posts)

When I turned on Permalinks, it broke some of the upload links. And now I've turned it off, but it's still broken. Check out this page:
    http://cqgcommunity.com/addons/?p=151

There are two links for downloading items. One goes to a .pac file and another to a .ppt file. The .ppt file opens just fine. But all links to .pac files are broken on the site. The files exist, it's just incorrectly pointing to that Error page. How do I fix it?

I'm really confused because it's just that file type. The jpgs and ppts are fine, it's just the .pac's. And before experimenting with Permalinks, clicking on those files worked just fine.

Hmm, but the thing is it was working before. Why would it stop working all of a sudden? And if that file type isn't allowed, how do I allow it?

And if that file type isn't allowed, how do I allow it?

I think that it has to do with the MIME type:

Iridiax, I've tried so many things with the mime. Still isn't fixing it.

    1. Tried the PJW Mime Config Plugin
    2. Tried editing the functions.php file and adding .pac as an extension to the mime array.
    3. Tried reuploading files.

The files are sitting there when I go to FTP, it just won't open.

    I don't get it.

If the .pac file is some sort of proxy file that you want to use for your site, then try using FTP for it. If it's a file that you want to provide for people to download, then try converting it to a .zip archive (which WordPress does allow).

Sorry to persist on this issue, but what irks me is that this file type was downloading just fine before. And we started creating a whole bunch of content with links to download these .pac files for our users.

The simple act of changing the Permalink from the default to a pretty URI, and then back (I assume) is what broke it.
