Reloading my old website ? (4 posts)

My Wordpress based website was 'accidently' removed by my host (great!) and I have now been saddled with the task of trying to get it up and running again.
I do have a recent back up copy of all the files that were present on the webspace prior to it's removal.
I have now installed Wordpress back onto my webspace, but I am wondering the best way of getting all the info working happily again.
Any help much appreciated, as I am not the most skilled at these tasks! ;-)

What sort of backup do you have? If you have an export that you made with the WP admin, you only have to make a new installation and import that export with the built-in function. If you have a database backup, you have to restore the backup (and perhaps make a new WP install and connect it to that database).

Oh, and when it's your host's fault, why not let them restore their backup?

Apparently, they didn't have one!!! I was shocked and just it's one more reason why I'll be going elsewhere once I've resolved this problem.
I didn't export a back-up, but I have a copy of all the files, including the database. I have done a fresh wp install and have updated that....it's what to do next that is bothering me? Shall I just replace all the new files with my backed up versions?
And how do I connect the old database with the new install.
    Thanks for the post ;-)

A copy of the database? Do you mean you can restore the database? If so, better first install the same WP that you used before, edit the wp-config file so that it connects to the database and then run the upgrade.
