• Hi There,

I use wordpress to build most of my websites and just recently i have noticed that two of them have had thier .htaccess file deleted which causes the urls to stop work as im using permalinks to structure them.

Can anybody think why this would happen? I am the only one with ftp access and its only the .htaccess file thats removed.

    Any information would be great.

    Kind Regards
    – Solly

  • This is a bit of a “long shot”, but I have heard rumours of web hosting companies that routinely delete .htaccess files to prevent customers from hosting multiple web sites on a single account.

For that reason, among others, I would talk to your web host’s Support folks. You could pretty much cut and paste what you’ve written here, in your Support Ticket to them.

    Hi,

If your hosting service provider has changed the server level configuration then it is possible that .htaccess file can be removed from all the domains from the server.

If configuration does not changed then try to recreate htaccess file into your domain and assign 644 permissions.

    Thanks,

    Shane G.

Thanks for both your feedback 🙂 I will talk to my hosting provider.

    Hi Guys,

We are having the same problem with one of our clients, we are now speaking to the host as recommended above.

If we find an explanation I will post it here.

It seems it should be a host related issue, if it was a application problem there would be a lot more threads/posts about it.

    Andy
