RSS/RDF Filenames

    Is there a reason that the RSS/RDF files produced by WP have an extension of .php rather than the more usual .rss or .xml or .rdf?

    wordpress doesn’t make the php file statically.
    it is the php file that makes the rss output dynamically.
    so, the php script should have php extension because for being recognaized as php.
    (sorry my english is poor)
