• My IDIOT HOSTING COMPANY somehow has lost my blog. Let me explain!

The blog is still up on the net. I can still write posts. But for some reason, when I go to the cpanel of the hosting account, the blog is “grayed out.” When I contacted them, they said that I would have to go back to a point where the blog was before it was upgraded/2.6.2. That was back in September of 2008! This is the support ticket what I sent to IX-ONE:

When I checked my value added applications and when I got to the domain name Imnotfeelingit.com, it shows:
    **
    Account Not Found:
The account information was not found for the account uid specified.
    **
I have been able to use the WordPress Blog and haven’t had any problems. But I would like to get that problem solved.

    And this is their reply:

    Support Staff Response
    Dear Tameko Miller,

Thank you for your response. At this time, it would appear that this installation of wordpress has been removed from the account. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. You can re-install the value application at your earliest convenience if you wish to continue using the product. Please let us know of the error returns once the installation is complete.

Please let us know if we can help you in any other way.

    Sincerely,

And here comes my dilemma. Re-installing the software isn’t a problem. But I don’t want to lose all of the posts that I have written or the dates they were written on since I found this error. I would like to know what would be the easiest way to do this? I’m guessing from the fact that I can still write posts that the databases are ok.

P.S. I need to be able to upgrade plugins and add things to the “back end” of the blog and can’t do that. Which is why/how I found the problem!

Sorry for the long post but I figured you would need EVERYTHING to be able to help me!!!

  • Well one thing you can do is log into your dashboard and go to “Tools”–>”Export” and download a copy of all of your posts. Not as ideal as having a database backup but it should help a lot.

Ok, let me get this straight. The blog works fine. You can access the wordpress admin fine. Everything is actually tickity-boo with it, only you want to upgrade it to the latest version? (good plan)

The database must still be intact, and presumably so must the installation of WordPress itself. So can’t you just FTP in and upgrade WordPress?

There is a plugin that allows for you to gain access to your databases without having to go through your cpanel. I used it once when i forgot my password awhile back.

I cannot remember the name of the pluin but I think “admin” was somewhere in the name.

That would be the best way to go about it if you can get that plugin.

Ah! I found the plugin for you, I had it installed still on one of my sites.

    WP-phpMyAdmin

That’s what it’s called. I would you that to gain access to your MySql area and backup your site.

You get access to the plugin through the “Tools” area.

Thanks for all of the help. I appreciate it!!!!

Jessn, I will export the posts.

Alism, Yeah, I’m pretty sure the database is still there because I can still write posts, get to the admin of wordpress, etc. But I can’t upgrade the blog or install plugins. And I am having a WICKED time with spam. I want to install a plugin to ban users.

In the cpanel the blog is grayed out. And I’m not sure how I would FTP in if the blog is “not there.”

    Markthedude,
Thanks for the plugin info but I can install any plugins. That is how I found out the blog wasn’t there.

Thanks again for the help and ideas!!!

Cpanel is just an application running on the server that installs and manages other applications.. (in the most simple of terms)

If you can login to cpanel, then you have all the access you need to do whatever you want.. (well enough to manage your webspace)

If your host didn’t supply the default FTP details when you initially registered they should be available under Cpanel, there should be something blatantly obvious like “FTP Accounts”, or something to that degree..

If you’re not sure what FTP means, and what it’s all about, go have a google for 30 mins or so and do a little reading, it’s quite easy to use once you understand what it is, and how to use it..

Your host should be able to help you find the FTP credentials if it comes down to it, but i’d think if you’ve managed to reach and use Cpanel, then FTP isn’t too much of a stretch..

    131os,

I know what the cpanel is and I know how to use FTP. What I don’t know is how to bring back the blog to a point where the blog is visible and doesn’t have the “Account not found” error message and so I can upgrade the blog and install plugins.

And I would like to do it without losing any of the posts that I have already written.

    Thanks for the help.

Your database contains your posts, pages, categories, and tags. Backup your database and whatever files you have left on your site and then find a new web host if you are unhappy with your current one.
