• At about 10 am PT, efforts to access my blog — either the blog itself or the dashboard — resulted in a 404 error. It worked fine a few minutes before, then stopped working. Other parts of my web pages work fine.

I checked the MySQL database with my cpanel and it reported one error, which I repaired. But the blog still didn’t work.

I haven’t upgraded WordPress in awhile, so (perhaps foolishly) I decided to upgrade, being careful not to overwrite the themes or plug ins. Now efforts to access my blog or the dashboard results in a blank page.

    Any suggestions?

BTW, how do I back up the blog using FTP? SInce I can’t access the dashboard, I can’t use the built-in backup. It would be nice to back it up in case I have to start all over somehow. But I don’t know what files to copy.

Okay, I backed up the database from my cpanel. So I suppose I can wipe everything out and start over. It would be nice to find an easier solution.

Sounds like the best bet is to download and install the latest version of WordPress then import the MySQL DB.

Yep, that worked. Thanks, kperrohe. I don’t know why it didn’t work the first time.
