I've posted a similar topic in the How To forum, but I think it's better off here. Sorry about the double post..

I'm in the process of setting up a Wordpress site. It's going to be an online magazine, that reviews products. The way I would like it to work, is that in the Wordpress admin, I have a seperate section or page to enter products into the database. Product names, images, custom fields with product info, maybe a link to a Youtube movie, the works! Then, when I write an article about a product, I want to be able to select the product in order to link the product to that article. When people view the article, they will then see the product info next to the article.

Of course I started to look for plugins that do this, and I figured I could not be the first one who wanted to use Wordpress in this way. But I'm having a hard time finding good keywords to search for, and have not yet found something that could accomplish what I want.

Review plugins seem to focus on rating more than anything, e-commerce plugins seem so 'much' for what I want to do, and catalog plugins seem to focus on browsing through pages of products. As I'm new to Wordpress I'm not sure if maybe I can use these plugins anyway and just not use all of what they offer, or if there is a better solution.

One thing that my non-expert brain thought up; what if I made a Page for every product? By using a custom field called page-type I could distinguish normal Pages (page-type = normal; about me etc.) from the product pages (page-type = product). Then I add more custom fields for all the product properties I want to store. Then I'd have to add a custom field to a Post, so that I can choose from all "page-type = product' Pages, and link one to a Post. This would require some custom programming, but I'm starting to think I won't be able to do without. Also, this way would allow me to devote multiple posts to one product, without having to enter all product info for every single post. Besides, storing information twice in a database is baaaaaad, even I know that :P

Any tips on good solutions, addons I can (ab)use, are more than welcome!
