wingedmonkeysI've got a question for all of you. After my sites got hacked, I had to do a complete clean reinstall of Wordpress. I'm taking all the steps Wordpress recommends to harden my Wordpress installation. I've encountered an issue though to run by you.
My site is hosted through InMotion Hosting. I notice that file permissions for the uploads folder in my Wordpress installation, as well as the folders within it, are set to 777, which can't possibly be good, since that means that those folders are writeable by the whole world. I've tried to change it to 755 using FTP and also their File Manager in cPanel, but I'm not able to do so. So here are my questions:
1. What is the proper setting for the uploads folders and the stuff inside?
2. How can I change the permissions? Am I doing something wrong? I've had no problem changing permissions for other files.
3. And is this an issue I should discuss with my web host?
