My website was hacked and completely removed. I don’t think it had to do with the worm. Access logs show someone from the Netherlands logging into my cPanel over and over again.

In any case, everything was lost, but I had the database backed up. I’m trying to restore the site by following the instructions to use phpmyadmin. Trouble is, when I unzip wordpress into the folder, it asks me to title my blog again and overwrites the old database that I just restored.

I also noticed that my backup has 21 wordpress entries, while the new wordpress installation has 30 some entries.

    Can someone help please?

  • I also want to do the same thing…i’m changing host, and i want to tranfer everything to be just like in the old host.

i’ve copied the databases…and now what?

    anyone?

Try to get help from your host admins. They know how to restore your backup, especially because i am sure they have some recently backups

This assumes you have exported your restored database and have the .sql or .zip file from the export on your computer

go ahead and do the install – it’s ok – really
If you can, then install the same theme – activate it
the same plugins – activate them
Now – import the database (the one you have on your computer) and you should see what you originally had

When I install wordpress like normal, then go to phpmyadmin and restore from my local backup, I get an error that looks like this:

    #1062 – Duplicate entry ‘3’ for key 1

It won’t import anything because of duplicates. How do I get around that?

darn – it figures you have an older version

    maybe your host can upgrade?

I’m a little confused. What is out of date?

    My MySQL version is: 5.0.81-community
    My phpMyAdmin is: 2.11.9.5
    and my PHP is: 5.2.5

I don’t know what version of WordPress it was, but I know it was at least one version old.

Update: I tried installing an old version of WordPress. Version 2.8, then setting the values in config.php and importing the mySQL backup. I am now able to get into the administrative area of the site. Once I activated the default theme, I am now able to see the site again… sort of.

I’ve upgraded to the latest version of WordPress and so far I don’t see any major errors associated with the restoration.

So for now, this case is pretty much solved. Thanks.
