I enabled the google sitemap plugin - http://www.arnebrachhold.de/projects/wordpress-plugins/google-xml-sitemaps-generator/
but I keep getting these 2 error messages in my wordpress dashboard
There was a problem writing your sitemap file. Make sure the file exists and is writable.

Any ideas how to troublshoot?
sounds like you didnt read and follow the installation instructions. you probably want to start there.
Interestingly enough, he doesnt have the same instructions on his site as exists on the plugins page ( see http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/installation/ ), but you can refer to his FAQ also:
