• I just installed 2.8.4. Now when anyone clicks on a “more” link after a snippet, they are taken to a post page with some weird URL like:

    http://mysite.com/postitle/#more-1572

Why are they not taken to the regular permalink page? What is this going to do in terms of social bookmarking and duplicate content issues?

    How can I stop it?

    Thanks.

  • It’s not a “weird url”. It’s just a url that contains an in-document anchor – i.e. it takes the user to the point in the single post where they finished reading rather than taking them right to the top of the post again.

If you want to force the link to go to the top of the page (instead of partway down), have a look at http://codex.wordpress.org/Customizing_the_Read_More#Link_Jumps_to_More_or_Top_of_Page

What is this going to do in terms of social bookmarking and duplicate content issues?

Absolutely nothing. In-document anchors have been around since hyperlinks were invented.

Shambhavi, try out Post Teaser plugin. It’s working fine on my blog running on 2.8.4.

However, as Esmi said, this is just a url that contains an in-document anchor. Hence, you will continue to access your page using the current “wierd url”, as well.

Esmi, Thanks a lot, I was looking out for this clarification regarding duplicate content for a long time.
