Themes not working-my site has no style applied (10 posts)

I used Fantastico to update Wordpress from 2.7 to 2.8 a couple of months ago and my site lost all formatting. It was as if there was no style sheet applied. I couldn't figure it out then.
I updated to 2.8 recently, and my site still had theme issues. I also noticed that where a theme preview should have been I just had a white box. This is true for the default and Classic themes, as well as any I had downloaded.
Now I have updated to 2.8.4 and I still have no themes. I have updated manually and with Fantastico, and deleted and reinstalled. Anyone have any ideas?

I should see a style sheet, but it gives a 500 error.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Hmmm...I loaded classic 1.5 and it does the same thing. Guess I need to contact my hosting company?

Could be an .htaccess issue, or something that got changed on the server. It might not hurt to inquire and see if your hosting service received any similar feedback from any of their other accounts. I know it seems like a lot of info, but browse through some of the hits in this Google search, and see of anything in those situations rings any bells. At the very least, it might provide some ideas.

Thanks! Hosting company said it was because of improper file permissions, which they fixed but it still isn't working. So frustrating. This is exactly why I put off fixing it for so long!

Yet I don't see a redirect when I request your blog address.

All of the 500 errors seem to occur when a request is made to the wp-content/themes/ directory

everything else I saw appears to be a 200 except for one 404 on a missing image

"The requested URL /wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif was not found on this server."

I'm afraid that's all I can see. Maybe there is a clue in there somewhere. Good luck to you!

Hey! I just forced a browser refresh and your site is back! It looks like they fixed it!

Ctrl+F5 or just clear your browser cache and try again.
