Support » Fixing WordPress » Duplicate content issue with default category slug

  • Hello,

I recently ran into a (I think) huge problem.

I am using the following permalinks structure for now over 2 years:
    %category%/%postname%

So all of my URLs look like this:
    http://www.blogname.com/categoryname/postname

My default category is called “Other” with “other” as slug. I recently noticed that Google started indexing blog posts from ALL categories with “other” in the permalink!!

I.e. a blog post http://www.blogname.com/category1/testpost is now ALSO indexed as http://www.blogname.com/other/testpost.

Because of that, all of my blog posts now have a duplicate and it shows in Google Webmaster Tools as errors – I am very afraid that I’m going to get penalized for this very soon.

Does anyone else have the same issue? What can be done to fix it?

    Thank you.
