[Plugin: GD Star Rating] Fatal error: Problem with plugin installation (5 posts)

    Hi,
We run two different blogs from the same server. On site one, which runs WP2.7 the plugin was installed without any glitch. On site two, which runs WP2.8.4, we received the following error message during installation:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/nirmaaan/public_html/...../wp-content/plugins/gd-star-rating/code/db/main.php on line 617

I checked all the memory settings and found that all the php.ini files are correctly set to 128M maximum memory, which is supported by our server (HostMonster). I also checked the folder permissions and those are also in order. Looks like it may be a bug. The site in question is at:

Thanks again for this outstanding tool for which we have been waiting for a long time.

    With regards,
    M

This has nothing to do with GD Star Rating. WP 2.8 uses much more memory, so standard 32MB is not enough. You need to increase it.

It has been increased to 128M as mentioned. Not sure what else can be done.

Hi GDragon, finally got it working. Among the four different solutions I tried, this one seems more reliable:

    Thank you.

I ran into this problem yesterday, but after reading various forums including this one, realized it's a very common problem and most occurrences are with WP 2.8. So, as GDragoN stated, WP 2.8 is memory-intensive and increasing the PHP memory-limit for WP solved this problem for me. Refer http://itsupport.mrkips.com/2009/09/17/wordpress-fatal-error-allowed-memory-size-exhausted/ for a screenshot of the error and solution implemented.
