302 Found, 400 Bad Request (Page Cannot Be Displayed) on /about/ and /wp-login/ (12 posts)

    Hi everyone,

My blog at http://www.mikeroberto.com works OK.

However, if you go to http://www.mikeroberto.com/about/ in Firefox, you get a 400 Bad Request error (with error 302 in the title). If you go to this site in IE, you simply get a Page Cannot Be Displayed Error.

Also, if you go to http://www.mikeroberto.com/wp-admin/ you get the same behavior. But going to http://www.mikeroberto.com/wp-admin/index.php does not cause this issue!

My host is powweb.com and I am using WordPress 2.0.5. I have also tried the WordPress 2.0.5 Tune-Up Plugin but have now de-activated it since it didn't help (you can find it at http://txfx.net/code/wordpress/wordpress-tuneup/)

With the /about/ page problem, I don't even know where that gets directed to as the code to get links in that list is pretty involved.

Can anyone help me at all?

    Thanks!
    berto

Nobody has any information on this?

    A) I think you want that tuneup plugin running. It won't hurt anything.

    B) It almost sounds like index.php is not configured as a default file for every directory in your domain.

Out of curiosity though, does anything change if you go to Options -> Permalinks and set them to "Default"?

I just started having similar problem today...

    When I go to:

    http://jeffmills.com/wp-admin/

    It just times out...

But I can get around it, by going to a different ADMIN page link like:

    http://jeffmills.com/wp-admin/link-manager.php

But while in the admin Dashboard if I click the dashboard link:
    http://jeffmills.com/wp-admin/index.php

Same error, I get a time out, page cannot be displayed error.

    I had not changed anything.

I tried login on my laptop and called a buddy and had him duplicate exact same error.

When clicking Site-Admin on sidebar, I get page cannot be displayed and this address shows up in my address bar:
    res://shdoclc.dll/DNSERROR.HTM#http://jeffmills.com/wp-admin/index.php

So I had my friend send me HIS index.php file under wp-admin and I swapped em out.. still same error and no change.

Can some wizard of WP help me?

HandySolo - Thanks, the updating permalink did not work.

HOWEVER, it looks like you're right, this is on my webhost's end. index.php's are not working on this domain for some reason.

I put a very simple index.php in http://www.mikeroberto.com/indextest/ and still get humiliated. I'll contact powweb.

    Thanks!
    berto

PS: Jeff - Nice blog, and it looks like http://www.jeffmills.com/wp-admin/ works fine from here in texas.

I am having the same issue with my blog. This just started yesterday. As for jeffmills.com/wp-admin/ working, I believe that is because you are not logged on/have cached credentials. I logged out of my WordPress blog and I was greeted with the logon form as soon as I clicked the login link, but after logging in I get nothing... it just times out.. However, if I am already logged in I get nothing as well without navigating to a different page within wp-admin/.

I navigate to http://www.averageadmins.com/blog/ and it comes up and I know that index.php is defined as the default document so the wp-admin/ should work as well. Even trying to hit http://www.averageadmins.com/blog/wp-admin/index.php times out so that rules out this being only a default document issue. Hitting the URL directly should work.

Could it be that an RSS feed or something being pulled and displayed on the Dashboard is down or timing out causing the whole page to timeout?

I also get time outs while posting articles. If I hit http://www.averageadmins.com/blog/wp-admin/post.php and post an article, it times out as far as returning any content to the browser but the article is posted.

Any ideas on why this may have started happening or how to resolve it?

Jeff - check your apache error logs to see if anything is logged, please.

If you temporarily disable all plugins, does the problem still happen? Installed any new plugins recently?

And finally, might check with your host to see if there's been any PHP, MySQL or Apache upgrades recently.

HandySolo - I disabled all the plugins and still got the same results.

I checked the error logs and there were no errors relating to this issue. Only 2 fatals where someone had accessd the blog while I had a plugin disabled and the content from that plugin couldn't be displayed... Basically calling an undefined function.

I will check with the web host to see if anything has changed over the weekend.

And... There have been no recent upgrades to PHP/MySQL/Apache on the web server... I'm at a lost why some parts of the wp-admin/ section work and some don't. It seems like the parts that don't work are those that interact with other sites, like the Dashboard pulling RSS feeds and the posting of articles which may try to do a trackback or hit an RPC site like pingomatic.com. Writing a post and clicking Save & Continue works flawlessly but if you Publish the post nothing is returned to the browser.

    Strange...

Good points. Whenever pingomatic is running slow we get a rash of posts about "white screens" or "php download".
That solution is typically to remove pingomatic from the ping list. Or chase down the plugin that does the pings async...

As for the dashboard, I'd imagine slow RSS fetching or the technorati thing could tank it easily enough. Have to confess that I don't go to the dashboard all that often. I usually jump straight to wp-admin/post.php :-)

Here are some plugins/articles that can mitigate the dashboard issue: http://www.blinklist.com/HandySolo/WordPress+dashboard/
Might be worth a shot to look 'em over and see if that IS indeed where your issue lies.

I'll take a look at the post but I wanted to give you an update on posting. I disabled the rpc.pingomatic.com service and the automatic pingback from links in the article and posting an article worked as expected.

Now to see what may be up with the Dashboard. I'll check out the link you provided. I also asked my web host to verify that any requests made from my web server are not being denied by a firewall rule and that they are in fact making it out to the "Interweb"...

    Problem solved.

I contacted my server host told them of the problem, I guess it was something on their side.

Gave em access to my account, and within 24 hours, all good in the hood.

They did not tell me what they did, but they did do something witht the server settings.

    Thanks for the support.
