I am using permlinks, and thus links to catagories should be “site.com/cat-name” but instead they come up as “site.com/category/cat-name” on the permlinks page my structure is “/%postname%” which works fine, but I do not want the extra “/category/” sub.

Anyone know a way around this?
If this post is too confusing (i’m quite tired) please see http://wordpress.org/support/topic.php?id=21528 I am having the same problem he is.

Thank you very much as always.

And how exactly would Apache know whether /bang/ is a category or a post and rewrite it with the proper url?… it can’t be done without modifying wordpress.

Thank you for your post, najt.

I would not have a problem with this, but when it posts the category url as “site.com/category/cat-name” all the images I posted in articles in that category come up 404 because the true location of those images is “site.com/”.

There has got to be a way around this.
    Thanks though.

I create pages instead of post. Pages do not have the /category/ in the URL

Ok, but when using *<?php wp_list_cats(‘list=0’); ?>* in a template, it automatically shows on the page as “site.com/category/cat-name” when the actual category is at “site.com/cat-name”. Obviously, this throws off my links.
Does anyone know what is causing this?
    Thank you.
