3.01 upgrade, lost my customizations

    I am new to WP, and it is the first upgrade I have done. I went from 3.0 to 3.1. All customizations I did are gone. Does the upgrade change all existing php files. The header pictures changed, the side bar? What do I do for future “upgrades'” so I don’t have this problem.

    Don’t customise the default TwentyTen theme. Make a copy of the theme and customise your copy. Or create a child theme.

    For this 3.0 to 3.0.1 update, on the list of updated files were most of the Twenty Ten theme files. So yes, they were erased and updated.
