[Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Line Break in Photo Captions

My thumbnails look fine when I add a BR between the 2 lines of the captions, but when the larger images is clicked on, the popup caption shows the HTML. How can I get rid of the BR ?

(unfortunately WP is stripping out the actual HTML, hence the BR without the < or >)
