I recently deleted my blog to upgrade to version 2.8.4 because the automatic upgrade option wasn’t working.

I installed new files and added mysql information to wp-config.php but nothing shows on the main site. The URL is http://www.apcoyne.com. The host is FreeHostia.

Before you say it, there are NO plugins activated. I’ve read other troubleshooting questions, and I can see this is an issue but I don’t have any installed or activated.

Yet I can login to the wp-admin page, access dashboard, etc. So, I don’t know if this problem is a error on my part or a server issue.

    Thanks in advance.

I want to add that when I reinstalled, I removed everything — all files and host databases — and then created a new database and uploaded wordpress.

what are telling the server to do in your index? I looked in your coding but there’s nothing there.

Thats not the way to upgrade a blog.

Did you re-import your database back into the new one you created?

BTW – your /wp-admin prompted me to download the wp-login.php returning a blank screen on the 2nd attempt before showing the login screen on the 3rd time of asking.

As well as a botched up upgrade/install there are issues with your hosting that need addressing with your service provider.

    Thanks for the response.

This time, I wasn’t upgrading, ZGani, I simply started over. New database, new files and I followed the 5 min installation guide. But I understand your confusion.

That wp-login.php giving a blank screen wasn’t happening before, so I’m starting to think this is a server issue.

    I solved the problem.

Somehow, when I upzip the wordpres-2.8.4, it would ask me if I wanted to override some files… I thought this was strange because it was the first time I upzipped, but I said ‘okay’.

This somehow affected the site installation when I uploaded the files to the server.

If this happens to you, try downloading the zip again, and extracting one folder at a time and then the rest into a new folder.

    It worked fine after that.

huh, what do you mean with the extraction? How many files do you have in total on your computer after extraction? Did it vary from the first extraction?

I’m having the same problem see…
