   Hi - maybe someone can help, I can't find the answer anywhere.

   After a year of no problem, now, when I browse to http://www.careerandsuccess.info ( a WP site with a front static page and registered members only access to the rest) I get this:

   "404 Error url not found"

   It appears to be redirecting me from http://www.careerandsuccess.info to "http://careerandsuccess.info/index". There is no redirect that I've set up however, no htaccess file or plugin installed for that purpose.

   Here's what I've tried:

   1) Htaccess file - there is definitely none present.
   2) Updated all my plugins.
   3) Changed the permalinks from default to "numeric"
   4) Tried installing "Disable Canonical URL Redirection" plugin, it says it's activated but no effect.

   Nothing works.

   I CAN however see the site if I'm logged into my WP Admin backend.

   Any ideas? I'm all out. BTW, this happened unexpectedly, not after a whole lot of tinkering on my part.

   Should I create an "index" folder with an htaccess redirect inside it directing it from "http://careerandsuccess.info/index" back to http://careerandsuccess.info - seems ridiculous.

   Your help MUCH appreciated.

   There has to be .htaccess file if you using permalinks as it is hidden file may be you can not see it you need to allow ftp or server to show your hidden file.
   If you find it try rename the file and reset your permalinks

   Did you check your membership plugin see if that redirecting

   Thanks govpatel! Somehow an htaccess.txt file has appeared from nowhere!

   I renamed it, reset my permalinks to "default", reverted to .htaccess and it's working.

   Still in the dark though as to what exactly happened? And how to prevent it happening again!?!?
