    Hi,

I had my website all set up and working and installed the same theme onto a sub directory on my website to create a 2nd portfolio page (the theme I was using wouldn't let me do this in the main theme site).

For example: my website is http://www.angieburgess.com

I installed wordpress again with the same theme under http://www.angieburgess.com/portraits

Now I am unable to log in to my main wordpress site and it has completely disappeared showing error message: Error establishing a database connection

The strange thing is I had installed a 2nd theme onto my site in a subdirectory (angieburgess.com/Gallery) yesterday and it worked fine, infact it is still working... so its not the new pages but installing the same theme again - Can anyone suggest how to fix this problem.

    Many thanks in advance!
    Angie

P.S. I'm relatively new to WP, so explanations in the simplest language would be much appreciated.

Sounds like you are trying to install WordPress twice under the same domain. This won't work unless you follow this:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs

Basically, you need two SQL databases for each installation - sounds like you're second installation has broken the database connection.

But do you really need two WordPress installations for the same website?

I would recommend just sticking to one WordPress installation. If you want a Gallery, why not use a gallery plugin?
