    *takes a deep breath*

    Have you ever been so frustrated with something that you want to take your computer and toss it against the wall?

    I’m feeling that right now.

    I saying this so you will understand the state I’m currently in, so please be patient with me while you read my situation

    I have a wordpress blog that was installed for me (at the free install that is offered) and now wish to add a new wordpress blog on the same web space. I of course have a new domain name that I can point to it.

    Is this something that can be done? Of course… but can I do it? Nope and I have been trying to figure it out for a week. Unfortunately the free install group does not install another blog on the same web space, so I am wondering if there is anyone who would be so kind as to walk me through this. I don’t understand much of anything regarding wordpress installation, hence why I got the free install, otherwise I would have done it myself.

    I would be very grateful and so would my computer, because it wishes to live a little longer!

    Thank you.

    A couple of questions...

    Do you have your own web space?
    Does your web space have a mysql database that you can use?

    I'm a bit unclear as to what you have and don't have.

    I think the free hosting (actually on wordpress.org) is designed for one blog per user, though I could be wrong. Edit - I am wrong, it says you can have as many blogs as you want.

    obviously, the original poster has mysql and his/her own web space available -- or there wouldn't be a blog installed already.

    And theres NO limit as to how many wordpress installs you can have on a host - space permitting.

    ryunix,

    the walk through already exists.. and anything put here is simply going to mimic whats already available to you here:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

    It might seem like alot to digest, but its much simpler for ppl here to answer questions as YOU do the work and come across stumbling blocks.

    Not trying to be funny, but if it was obvious what the OP was trying to do, I wouldn't have asked the question.

    For clarity, I was trying to ascertain if he/she is using the free hosted blog service, or trying to set up his own installation.

    install4free doesnt need to/and doesnt install blogs on wordpress.com if thats the free hosted service you are referring to.

    (its just a simple matter maybe of you missing the install4free reference)

    I also check previous posts if any are available -- its quite clear from his other post, that its a normal web site...

    Moving on until the OP replies.

    I think it must be, as no such reference was ever made.

    My bad for actually asking for clarification.

    And in order to progress...

    If you have your own hosting and mysql server, then the install doc whoami linked to may be of some help.

    Remeber if you use the same database to change the mysql prefix in your wp-config.php the line is normally like this -

    $table_prefix = 'wp_'; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

    So you'd need to change the letters wp_ to something else for your second site, if they share a database.

    Sorry about the confusion. It is my own space and is capable of running wordpress.

    Thabk you all for the fast reply, i will go through all the instructions and post when i get stumped.

    My first stump

    If i want to make sure that at a later time i can take this new blog that i am making and move it another webspace. Because of this, would it be best to reinstall wordpress in a totaly new directory?

    another webspace = you mean move it to a different host/server?

    it doesn't matter so much if it's in a folder or in the root directory, it looks cleaner in a folder though.

    For example I've got a server with WP on the root level, and 3 more WP's in subfolders.... and yet another folder which acts as the "root" of my 2nd domain. Inside there, several more WP's.

    Wanting to move wordpress to another host later has little to do with where you install it now -- the actual moving wont be much more easy, and the steps are the same.

    So no.

    ok well i have experimented a bit

    the main blog is this http://www.southviewfellowship.org and i have a domain http://www.humanheaven.com

    if you goto http://www.humanheaven.com you should see the problem. All the info from southviewfellowship is in it other then the template, which does not seem to be functioning right :S

    Ill tell you what i have done and where i installed what, with hope it helps.

    ftps35.brinkster.com
    -> southviewchurch
    ---> database
    ---> webroot
    ------> Humanheaven (put new wordpress in here)
    ------> wordpress (southviews wordpress is in here)

    Anyway i can fix this :S thanks guys, you all have helped so much, what is scary is that i think im learning too :O

    I think HH is either pointing towards the SVC database (in your wp-config), or you somehow duplicated the SVC database

    can you make a new database for HH, or, another method is to use the same database but change the table-prefix, again it is a setting in your wp-config file.

    I would take a look at the wp-config.php in both places, HH and SVC, they need to be slightly different

    ok they are the exact same. how do i make a new database :S sorry for the trouble

    I have tryed several things but i do not believe i can have more then one database :S

    any thoughts on the table prefix?

    im not sure what part of this code i change in the config. here is a cut and paste

    $table_prefix = 'wpi4f_';

    what part of that do i change, would oyu mind giving an example with HH?

    I think if you change that line to
    $table_prefix = 'hh_';

    and then go to the HH address, it will probably ask you if you want to run the Famous 5 Minute Install. I think, try that.
