I am a complete beginner. Can anyone tell me, in very simple terms, how to get WordPress up and running on a free server such as Apache?

Posted 4 years ago #I'd like to do what it says in that link: use Apache. I downloaded the latest version of Apache for windows binary. I don't know what to do next.

That's not enough. It seems you want to run it at home. Download and install XAMPP. You can find instructions at the link provided earlier.

Posted 4 years ago #If you are using Windows, the easiest way to install a server on your computer that I have found is Easy Web Server found here. It installs Apache, MySql, and sets up a localhost server in one step. It works well for me.

Use Dream Host as your host, they have a one click install for WordPress.
