So here is the story. When I first started out blogging I really screwed up badly.

Here is what I did, I went in through my ftp client area and basically deleted everything. It was soo long ago I don't even know why but I had a friend recover the site for me. Now there are a few things that are a little messed up and so that's what I need help with.

When I go to update to newer versions of WP I use the handy Auto update button feature and my site gets completely destroyed.

So in order to give you guys an idea of what errors I get I tried to Auto update a plugin and here is what happened.

    "Upgrade Plugin

    Downloading update from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.zip

    Unpacking the update

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pclziputilpathreduction() (previously declared in /home/mark/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-posterperiodic/lib/pclzip.lib.php:5421) in /home/mark/public_html/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 5498"

Now, I think that something is point to the wrong folder or there is one missing.

If there is too much damage I would more than willing to re-install WP but the only thing that is stopping me is that I have tons of comments on my site and so I don't want to lose those. So is there a way to either fix the issue that I'm having or is there a way for me somehow save the comments and re-install them again?

I really want to get my site 100% again, as I want to change it up a bit.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Disable and delete the -old- WP Upgrade plugin. It is causing your issue.

Thank you soo much Chris_K! I was able to upgrade all the plugins no problem.

Now, if the plugins worked should upgrading my WP version work now?
Could the problems with the plugins be the same thing causing the Auto update of the site version?

In theory I think I should have no problems but I don't want to screw my site up again.

    Thanks!

I would back up all your files and your database, then try.
