This is like really cool: http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/tags/

Can this be done with Wordpress?

Close, but not the same. That plugin is based on the categories, the one I linked to one commonly used terms in posts.

It is good stuff, no doubt about that.

But on a blog that uses only 1 category... ;-)

    Thanks!

I think I have this installed right.

I'm not sure how to see the 'tag' page though like you have here:http://mtdewvirus.com/tags/

    What am I missing?

    Thanks!

That functionality appears to be controlled by a plugin called "WP-HeatMap". More info: http://www.engadgeted.net/archives/2005/02/10/wordpress-heat-map-plugin/

    Nope...still can't figure it out.

Heatmap doesn't carry the instructions either. There's lots of info on how to configure the thing, but no hint how to actually view the page.

What I need is some instructions like "point your browser to /wp-content/tags.php' or something. Where the hell is the page that shows the categories??

I know I'm missing something totally stupid...

You could try asking MtDewVirus - I think there's a contact link on his site, or just post in one of his "redesign" threads.

I posted on his site, but no answer yet.

    Thanks

Well, he's a nice guy, just a little patience might be in order....

It seems like such a silly thing though. I mean - I'm sure I don't need the author to tell me where to point my browser. Surely someone on these forums is using this plugin....?

Maybe.... not all of us are convinced that "tagism" is all that great a thing, though, y'know?

I don't need all of you. Just one of you.

    Hi guys,

I thought I'd react, being the author of that Taggerati plugin for Pivot. It should be easy to port it to WordPress and probably be easy to make it better than the Pivot one too because WP has a SQL database and Pivot doesn't. My plugin stores all data in textfiles which isn't the most optimal solution of course.

Nice to be noticed outside the Pivot community as well by the way ;)

I don't quite understand. Are you saying that you're intending to port it to WP or are you just stating that it can be done?

I'm stating that it can be done quite easily. I'd do it myself if it weren't for a TODO list on my desk stretching from here to Auckland, NZ. And I can tell you that's very far away from the Netherlands. sorry :(

    Ak. OK.

I must admit that I'm totally disappointed in every tag plugin for WP so far. I cannot get a single one to work and none of the authors have offered any help.

    Very sad.

@TheMarco: big fan of your artwork here and the Taggerati-thingie simply ROELS! :-)

I do however think you have some trouble in getting your priorities straightened out. ;-)

Trying to get wp-heatmap to work, will report back in later. Hopefully with a big smile on my face instead of crying my heart out...

@Heatsink: Firstly, http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/tags/ is not a WP plug-in, and the author has stated quite clearly they aren't intending to port it anytime soon.
Secondly, I'm not sure what other plug-ins you have tried, but 90% of them are no brainers. Perhaps you would be a good candidate for WP Plugin Manager? It allows 1-click installs of some plug-ins.
If that fails, try a post to this forum, and there is usually someone who has installed the plug-in that can help, or if you search the archives often the problem has already been discussed.

Now that I have more time...

jpetit, since you can't seem to be bothered to scroll up a few posts and read what I actually wrote, I'll recap here for you.

jpetit:Firstly, http://www.i-marco.nl/weblog/tags/ is not a WP plug-in, and the author has stated quite clearly they aren't intending to port it anytime soon.

Heatsink:I'm not sure how to see the 'tag' page though like you have here:http://mtdewvirus.com/tags/

Where, exactly, did you see me stating that the link you indicated is a plugin?

    Next:

jpetit:Secondly, I'm not sure what other plug-ins you have tried, but 90% of them are no brainers.

Agreed. Where, exactly, did you state I was having problems with other plugins aside from this one?

    Next:

jpetit:If that fails, try a post to this forum.

Umm..what, exactly, did you thin you were replying too? It was post from me.

In short, you seemed to have enough time to post three paragraphs of innaccuracies, but no time to post anything that might actually be helpful.

What a waste of a post.

Firstly, I thought you were asking about the original post. I believe the answer you are looking for is to call:
    do_action('before_post', '');
    to get http://rephrase.net/miscellany/05/post_tags.phps to work.

As for the rest of your hard-to-follow post you stated previously:

"I must admit that I'm totally disappointed in every tag plugin for WP so far. I cannot get a single one to work and none of the authors have offered any help."

It sounds to me like you are having problems with every other plug-in, including this one, and i suggested that you try posting regarding those other plug-ins if you wanted some help. If you don't want any help, please feel free to struggle on your own.

    jpetit:

I thought I was pretty clear about what post I was referring to since I included a link from it and all.

As for your second point where you quoted me as saying:

"I must admit that I'm totally disappointed in every tag plugin for WP so far. I cannot get a single one to work and none of the authors have offered any help."

I guess you missed the word TAG in there, eh? As in TAG PLUGIN?

As far as looking for help, you can be assured that I never post in any forum until I have struggled through whatever knowledge I have on the subject and run numerous searches throughout the forum in question and Google.

To date, I have completely failed to get this plugin to work, and I have yet to come across anyone (other than the original link I quoted) who will admit to having it running and present a solution about how to get it running. This is enough informarmation for me to indicate that this plugin is indeed problematic for more people than just me.

I have managed to get wp-heatmap working thanks to a user who actually runs this plugin successfully and thanks to macmanx for pointing me in that direction.

Mere minutes after I had heatmap up and running another user from this board hit my site and asked how to get it running. He is now up and running with wp-heatmap as well.

Responses like yours (although not the worst I have ever seen by far) are akin to the completely unhelpful 'do a search'. You won't ever see me post an answer like that. If I don't know how to help someone, I move on. I don't fire off a post that is full of inaccurate information and then suggest that the posters skillset isn't sufficiently high enough for the task they are trying to accomplish.

If you feel the urge, feel free to stop by my relatively new WP installation. I think you will very quickly notice that I don't seem to have a large problem modding or using plugins.

I like this very much, too. Now, has anyone ported this to Wordpress?

Good news and bad news! The good news is, I'm porting Taggerati to WP. The bad news is that the publish_post and save_post hooks aren't doing a thing in WP 1.5.2. I'm in serious need of assistance on this one. Anyone?

Got it sorted out. Taggerati for WordPress is coming along nicely. I hope I can release it within a week or so.

I don't know if anyone is interested but you can follow the progress here:

Ideas to make this the definitive tags solution for WP are welcome.
