Getting Admin’s Name to Show As Post Author

    I recently began setting up new Contributor-level users on my Medellin Living blog, but when I went to post myself, the only options for Author were the names of those contributors I set up. I couldn’t figure out how to use my Admin level access to show myself as the author.

    As a workaround, I set up a new user account with my name and a secondary e-mail address, but I’d prefer to stick with one account for me. Why doesn’t the Admin name show up as an Author option when posting, and is there a plugin that achieves this?

    I’m not sure I’m ready to make big changes to my blog – customizing it for multiple users.

    Why doesn’t the Admin name show up as an Author option when posting

    It should but occasionally, WP hiccups and looses the Admin option in the Author dropdown. The fix is simple – if a little long winded.

    1. Set up a new, temporary, Admin user. Remember the username and password. You’re going to need it in a moment.

    2. Log out and then log back in again as the new Admin user.

    3. Navigate to Users and select your old Admin profile.

    4. Reduce your old profile down to Subscriber and save the new settings.

    5. Update your old profile back to Admin again and save the new settings.

    6. Log out and then log back in again using your old username.

    7. Check that you can now see your old Admin name in the Author dropdown in Add/Edit Posts.

    8. If all is well, delete the temporary Admin user. You no longer need it.

    Told you it was long-winded. 🙂
