   This depends on your webhost, what is your webhost?

   It says here that HostGator uses the default host value, "localhost".

   So if your database, user, and password are correct, it should work.

   If you think the issue might be related to your database, I'd suggest contacting HostGator. They are not going to give you much detailed WordPress support, but they should help you re-create your database if you need to, and get WordPress connected to that database so that you can install it!
