Support » Fixing WordPress » WP 2.8.2. – import screen blank?

  • I was trying to move my blog (WP 2.8.2, de-version) from one server to another. Everything seemed to go smoothly, but now I’m trying to import articles, pages, categories etc. (a wp export xml file). It doesn’t work because the tools/import page in the backend is empty below the title – so I can’t even choose the type of data to import.

I reuploaded the wp-admin folder and import.php, deactivated any plugins, chose the default templates, set the permission for the upload folder to 777 – nothing worked. Any ideas whatelse could cause the problem?

Thanx in advance for any help – Gabi

I tried to narrow it down: It must be the settings of the 1&1 server, since install and import of data went smoothly on a strato machine. What finally worked for the 1&1 install was a .htaccess file that forced the use of phh5:

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
    AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

But why that is I can’t comprehend – I had the import problems with a fresh WP install (standard template) without any plug-ins that could require php5…

    Greetings from Gemany – Gabi

I just had that same problem and got around it following the suggestion of Club6 elsewhere in the forums.
Simply switching the language to English made the systems to choose from visible!

Cheers for that, it worked great 😀

I’m with 1&1 and also had the blank import screen issue. I tried gfra’s solution and it worked perfectly. Forcing the use of PHP5 also allows the automatic update feature to work. So thanks very much gfra!
