    I am working with WP1.5 and I am trying to get the disabled comments message to display – my comments_popup_link is set up like this:

    <?php comments_popup_link('Add a comment', '1 comment', '% comments', 'commentlink', 'Comments closed'); ?>

    This should display “Comments closed” when I close comments on a post, right? It does not – any one else having this problem?

    I still cannot get it to display “comments closed”. Any ideas? Anyone?

    <Bump> again. I am running WP 1.5.1 and still can’t get the “Comments closed” to work. Someone must be able to help here, I can’t beleive I am the only one with this problem.

    Can you point to a post that has comments closed?

    Edit You’re right, it doesn’t use the comments closed string…

    Ha, it requires both comments AND pings to be closed. Want to tweak some core code? Or always remember to disable pings as well?

    You have to “close” pings to that post too.

    Deselect the “Allow Pings” option when you edit the post, and then it should show the comments closed text.

    Thanks, how confusing, I suppose it is logical seeing as pings are part of the commenting system, I just never thought to close that as well. Thanks for your help guys.
