• I just upgraded from 2.7 to 2.8.2 and was told it was a success.

However, while the blog looks ok (except for on widget no longer appearing on the side bar) I am unable to access the admin back end.

When I go ot /wp-admin I am served up a blank white page.

Obviously it is important that I be able to have admin access.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Reading through the forums it seems many others are having the same problem.

I wonder if it is possible to revert back to 2.7 ?

I’ve still got FTP access and have been able to log in to the account and look at the error log. There are no entries in log from today.

Someone in another thread suggested renaming my plugins folder so I tried that. That didn’t help, in fact it made the blog disappear giving my a blank white page when I tried to view the blog. So I changed the name back.

Someone else suggested deleting the HTaccess file so I tried that. That just made none of the posts accessible. I am still unable to access the admin backend. So I put the htacess file back.

I’ll continue to report any additional attempts I make.

Other tips I have picked up is that sometimes the upgrade automatically inserts blank lines into the wp-config.php and the wp-includes/function.php files for some strange reason and this can cause the blank white page to appear when attempting to log in.

I looked at mine and sure enough, there were blank lines at the bottom of both of these pages so I deleted them.

No change though, I am still unable to log in.

    Anybody have any ideas?

Lets have a look at your site. Please post the link here.

I’ve got the same blank white page. I’ve only just set the site up, i found that once i connected to my server i now can’t login. My site is http://grohbag.com. Your help would be much appreciated. What should the login url be anyway?

@nduke – your blog is working just fine, I can access the login page.

I’m having the same problem after upgrading to 2.8.2. I can reach the login.php page. I can input my username and password. But when I submit that information THEN it shows up a blank page. Can’t get to the ADMIN section. Getting to the login page is fine. What in the world is going on here?

@surayasha – which of his suggestions worked for you?

I tried reverting back to 2.7.1 with this method:

    http://techie-buzz.com/wordpress/downgrade-uninstall-wordpress-28.html

Still getting nothing but the blank white screen.

I have my blog back and working. The thing that did it for me was looking in the wp-config file and comparing it with the wp-config-sample file that comes with WordPress.

I found this line in my wp-config file and so I deleted it.

    define('WP_CACHE', true);

My blog now works and I am able to log in and access the admin area.

    Hope this helps others.

I’m also seeing this with my upgrade from 2.8.1 to 2.8.2

Can login as an admin, see the initial dashboard and then it disappears and is just a blank white screen that looks to still be loading.

Strangely I can get to specific pages, like my site stats, but going to the dashboard brings up the blank screen.

I tried disabling all plugins, no joy. Is there a log file that WordPress creates that I can study?

    Thanks.
