    Hi,

I hope you can help me as I’ve just realized that it’s no longer possible to post comments on my blog at http://mikelogan.eu/.

The form and buttons are all still showing-up, it’s just when pressing ‘submit’ there’s a lot of whirring before it eventually passes me to a blank page at http://mikelogan.eu/wp-comments-post.php#comment- .

It’s working sufficiently to trigger the notification email, but all the data is missing and the approve/delete/spam links are all incomplete and take me to a ‘Oops, no comment with this ID’ admin page.

After some Googling, I’ve tried submitting comments when logged-in, logged-out, and logged-in as someone else; I’ve tried different browsers; I’ve un-ticked the various boxes on the Settings page; I’ve altered the .htaccess file – all to no avail.

I have forced one comment to show-up by writing it directly into the mySQL – but this comment isn’t triggering the Comments-count, whereas the older submitted comments still do.

From what I can see from Akismet, even the spam comments dried up in June, so this may (but may-not) have coincided with the upgrade to 8.2.

    Thanks,
    Mike.

  • Having the same problem here, on a friend’s site.

Does coincide with the recent upgrade here. I’ve tried everything short of downgrading her WordPress – deactivated all plugins, switched to default theme, reinstalled through the auto reinstall, reinstalled manually – nothing helped.

Anyone figure this out? If not, I’m going to have to just downgrade her WP version.

UPDATE >> Downgraded to 2.8.1. and still having the problem. Could the upgrade have messed up the database tables? If so, how to fix? Any other ideas?

I believe I have the same problem. Commenting takes me to a 404 error. I urgently want to resolve it. My blog is here if you want to test if the problem is similar.

This is a pretty serious issue and no one knows what the problem is? I’m glad to know my friend isn’t not the only one, but that just means there may be even more having this problem. Any help would be great…

Well, that was weird. My comments are now working again, but I don’t feel that I’ve solved anything, I’ve just opened up a bigger problem, I can’t yet comprehend!

I de-activated all my plug-ins, deleted all the WordPress db tables, and then re-installed the tables from my back-up – at this point, comments were working.

I re-activated all the plug-ins, and comments were no longer working.

I narrowed it down, and found that the activation of Akismet was now obstructing the comments facility from working. When it was activated, it was also timing-out when I tried to enter the API-key.

Similarly, I now can’t get WP-Stats to show – that’s timing-out as well. So, I’ve deactivated that again.

Whilst comments are now working, the lingering worry is that the activation/de-activation of Akismet wasn’t making any difference prior to my re-building the database – and I didn’t knowingly change anything.

Given that the comments were timing-out before, and now Akismet and WP-stats are timing out, the common factor would seem to be the connection to the WordPress.com API key, but I don’t understand why (or what’s changed)…

comingapartagin, I feel your pain. After having my hosting company help me with a permalink issue, I was able to get my comments working. I then installed and activated Akismet and WordPress-Stats. One or the other is not only causing my comments to go to 404 error, but when I click on a post title I get 404 error. Aaugh.

I’ve deleted both but the problem persists. I too think it has something to do with API key. Grrr…

Running 2.8.5 and Akismet was definitely the problem (at least tonight).

Basically, by disabling the plugin and re-enabling it, comments are now working again. Not sure what was up as it only happened with one particular install of wordpress and not on the other 12 (I think that’s how many I have now… I’ve lost track).

    I was running some mysql_query () in a theme via an external script outside of the WP install and it was interfering with the WP core, disabling the comments. Dunno if this is helpful but I resolved the problem by using $link identifiers on all mysql_query () and then closing the sql session at the end of the included script with mysql_close ( $link );
