2.9.2 to 3.0.1 Upgrade stalls at "Unpacking the Update"

    As per the topic title

    Click the upgrade link in the yellow warning bar in admin
    Click Upgrade Automatically (has always worked on this install in the past)
    Message “Unpacking the Update” appears, and stays, and nothing progresses.

    As far as I know, nothing has changed on the server, and no additional plugins since last successful auto-update (in fact I knocked out a couple of them and deleted them, so less memory load which should have improved auto-updating ability).

    Shared server
    Linux 2.6.18-194.8.1.el5
    MySQL 5.0.91-community
    PHP 5.2.13

    How could I forget?

    Deactivate all plugins, run the auto-upgrade, gnash teeth when reactivating plugins that don’t save API keys in the database causing you to have to go hunting for them deep in the depths of your mail server – grrrrrr.

    Anyway – knock out all the plugins, upgrate, reactivate the plugins if you get this constant stalling of the upgrade.
