When I access the site admin section I can see the dashboard but there are no upper lever links, ie to Options, Settings, Plugins (neither do they appear at the side of the Dashboard)
I cannot access these sections at all.
If I post an entry and want to go back to the Dashboard there is no link or button showing.
I am using 2.8.1

I do not know what to do. It is not as though I can upload a plugin to fix this as I can't access my plugins at all.
Start with the easy thing first: on your browser clear the cache and cookies. See if that does it.
If it does not work: do you have access to your wp-content directory? If it's a plugin interfering with the admin screens, then backup your WordPress files and then rename the plugins directory to plugins-old.
Once you have done that, see if you can log in. If that does fix it, create a new plugins directory and copy the old plugins into your new directory one at a time until the admin interface has a problem. That plugin will be the one you need to disable.

Thank you so much! Your solutions works a treat - you are allowed a big chocolatey cream cake at teatime :)

Hi -- I am having the same probs as the guy above, except I don't think I have access to my wp-content directory (in fact, I don't think I know what that is). I'm not computer savvy, so the suggestion to backup WordPress files, etc is a bit over my head. Any simpler hints? I have lost all upper level links and only a limited version of Dashboard remains, plus Profile, plus Tools. That's it!
