    1. is there a single searchable location to find themes that are available for modification?

    2. do you generally have to provide a link acknowledging where the theme came from?

    3. can these themes be used for sites for commercial purposes?

    thanks!

    1. http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

    2. no, unless the license requires it.

    3. yes, unless the license restricts it

Note; Most themes are editable. If you find one that is not, ignore it.

1.) Just for clarification, is a theme simple an html page that could be opened in a program like Dreamweaver and modified there?

2.) I am just starting to read up on all this, so excuse my ignorance. Do you use a single theme you download to somehow modify it as the separate pages in your blog? So for example, if I have a pictures page, do you save one version of the theme customized for pictures with a name like pics.html one for audio as audio.html etc.?

    is that how it works?

    thanks for your help!!!!

It's a combination of several types of files (.css, .php, .js - depends on the theme), but yes you can open and modify them using Dreamweaver if you so choose....

PHP files allow the use of HTML to, so you'll generally find all the HTML in the PHP files..

The theme just manages the look, you typically add content from the administration, much like you would with a regular CMS..

That's not to say you can't create pages (and more), there's too much to cover, check the Docs link up top (there's hundreds of pages)..

    Here's somewhere to get started.
