My hosting is with Hetzner, I created a database and used the file manager to upload the zip file I downloaded. Unzipped it, renamed to wordpress and followed the installation steps. Everything went smooth and I received my password to login, but when I log in I get a 404 component not found error....I tried everything I knew to solve this, but no luck? Can anyone help with this error please?
Try unzipping the Wordpress archive locally and then uploading the resultant folder to your site. But don't forget to copy the settings from your existing wp-config.php file first.

ok, made some progress. When I enter my username and password. The page http://www.myurl/wordpress/wordpress/wp-admin opens. For this page it says 404 error. I added index.php at the end and could enter my back end or dashboard....but still can not see the blog. When I click the "visit site" link it leads me to http://www.myurl.wordpress/wordpress and there is nothing there. What am I doing wrong?
Sounds like there is a problem with the site url as entered into WordPress.
Have a look at http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL
