I cannot update a page after I add a picture, or the entire page gets deleted and I have to restore. This is getting frustrating! Help?

Try deactivating all plugins and check to see if this resolves the problem. If it does, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
You could also try switching temporarily to the default theme to check whether this is a theme-specific problem.
