No media upload buttons (flash OR browser) on Mac (2 posts)

I'm installing a new Wordpress blog for a client, and cannot get the media upload to work at all on a Mac.

    A few details:

    • I have tried everything at http://wordpress.org/support/topic/164999?replies=1

    • This is a totally fresh 2.8 install, not an upgrade from a previous version.

    • This is happening with all plugins uninstalled.

If I reboot into Windows, I can get it to work, so that tells me it's not a problem with the install or file permissions. I've tried to get it to work on 2 different Macs, on a variety of different browsers, but all I get is the title, "Upload New Media", followed by blank space. No buttons at all.

I uninstalled Flash 10 and downgraded to Flash 9. No help.

I installed the "no flash upload" plugin, but that changed nothing.

I personally wouldn't mind manually uploading the files and linking to them myself with html in new posts, but I'm setting this up for a client who is not computer proficient. I need for the inline uploader to work.

Is there a way to make this work? I'm pulling my hair out here.

Oh, I should also mention, because I've seen this listed as a possible cause of such problems... I did have Google Gears installed in Firefox, but I have uninstalled it and the problem persists.
