My lousy attempt to reproduce a masterpiece.

    Suggestions/Comments/Feedback would be nice!

Don't get me wrong, but doesn't "reproduce" mean the same as "steal"?

Excellent. I like you subtle attempts at creating differences between your design and the original design.

This is what I had on my site:

Since this theme is an obvious attempt to reproduce TicTac, I take absolutely no credit in it. If you like this theme, write an email to Dan and let him know.

I'm not claiming it to be my own work so I wouldn't think it's "stealing".

Other than the calendar being a tad too wide, it's rather perfect! Get rid of Sunday, LOL! Very nice work, fuzzy_logic.

fuzzy_logic, I'm aware of your statement.

Let's assume I was contracted by some company for a template design -- for a blog, corporate website, whatever -- and then someone else came along "reproduced" it and offered it for download then I would say:

    - he rips off my work
    - offends the company's ownership of the work

In case there's either no copyright on the them or Dan allowed you to "reproduce" it, then it's OK with me. If that's not the case I will consider it stealing. You can't say I take absolutely no credit in it. If you like this theme, write an email to Dan and let him know. while making it available for download.

The design does not belong to Dan Cedarholm. It belongs to Blogger. I spent quite a bit of time on Blogger's site earlier, looking for information on porting their designs to other platforms, and could find nothing.

He has contacted Dan. And, in all honesty, Dan was fine with it. The question is whether or not Google is fine with it. But the only thing Google cares about lately is misuse of their logo. There are hundreds of Blogger theme ports out there.

OK, than it's perfectly fine with me, too! Best of luck with the theme!

You know, I really didn't think it was a such a big deal. First I contacted the original author (he told me to ask Blogger/Google), and then I gave full credit to him, and on top of everything I did my own graphics. It's not even like I'm making money - my site doesn't even run any ads.

I did the port because it's a theme I really like and I thought it would be nice if it's available to everyone who uses WP. I didn't rip off Dan's work because I'm not trying to pass it off as my own. I'm simply making it possible for more people to enjoy his work.

fuzzy don't stress over it - you did the job the right way and I'm sure everyone is grateful for it.

This is exactly why you really need to get permission from Blogger/Google - you're just trying to do something nice and you don't want to be rewarded with nasty letters from lawyers.

    Just sent this to Blogger:

    Dear staff from blogger,

I'm the webmaster of this site:

    http://wuhan.authenticasian.com/tictac/

Tell me if you guys are fine with it. If not, let me know why and I'll happily take it down.

    Thanks!

    Meng

I'll remove the download if they tell me to, even though I still think technically they can't do anything about it. But if they don't response, I'm just gonna go ahead and leave it there.
    We'll see!
