Stray Random Quotes 1.9.7 Not Playing Nicely With New Quotes Since Upgrade (7 posts)

I passionately love this plugin, but I have a problem. Since I updated to 1.9.7, it does not recognize the old quotes categories and does not list the new author, source, or category. The new quote also does not play nicely with the old ones -- it captures the first 1.5 sentences and merges them with the remainder of the next quote: http://peacockandpaisley.com/clients-say/

I'm not updating this site to 2.8; I'm waiting until 2.8.1 because of the laundry list of problems others have had. But I don't have a copy of the previous version of SRQ; is there a way I could get one and downgrade to it and keep all my quotes and formatting and everything intact? I use SRQ extensively on this site and others. It's a great tool and gets 2 thumbs up from me!

    Thanks for your help!

I found a copy of SRQ 1.8.6 -- would that work to downgrade to and still keep the lovely management page and my old categories (which clearly are still in there somewhere, since they're still with my previously-entered quotes)?

    Thanks!

There is no need to go back to 1.8.6. ALL old versions are available from the plugin pages here at the Wordpress repository (Follow the "Other versions" link under the version number on the top right of the plugin page).

If you decide to downgrade: using the remove feature of the plugin deactivate the plugin AND delete its options from the database, then manually delete its folder.

But before you do please tell me: what version of SRQ were you running before upgrading to 1.9.7? I suspect it was quite a old version.
If it was 1.8.6 or around that number you could solve your problems by downgrading to 1.9.5 first.

    Let me know.

Hi Ico, I was using the very latest version of SRQ; I'd been updating religiously, usually the same day, sometimes within days. I have 1.8.6 on disk from doing a backup from a few months ago.

Thank you for the info on finding old versions at wordpress.org.

If I delete SRQ 1.9.7's options and folder, will I lose all the quotes and categories and formatting I already have entered?

No obviously not...! Quotes and their categories are safe in the database. Removing the options would reset the layout settings, if that's what you mean by formatting. Anyway if you go to the "remove" page in quotes>remove you'll see that "remove all quotes" and "remove all options" are different check-boxes.
Backup your database first if you want to be extra safe (via phpmyadmin or using a plugin like wp-dbmanager.)

However, since you had the very latest version before, I'd be surprised if this downgrading business helps at all... And I am disappointed because I can't imagine what your problem with the plugin is... except maybe some conflict with other scripts or plugins you might have recently added or edited?

Consider that on the SRQ page there is also a 1.9.8 revision that is brand new, although I am not sure it will fix anything for you.

    keep me updated.
    ciao

Well, despite upgrading and downgrading and deactivating and reactivating, I haven't yet gotten my categories back. What can I do? This really stinks. I use SRQ all over my site, and I have some wonderful new testimonials from clients that I really want to put up, but they're not working right!!!

Update: It's working fine now, except that I have to re-enter all the categories. But the site is running fine! Whew. I am relieved. I don't know what I changed that did the trick. I'm now running 1.9.9 on 2.7.1 and everything is fine.
