I have another post on this but in that I am looking for someone to fix it. As its a bit slow and I need to get the site working quickly (we're just talking to very important prospects now - and so it all goes wrong!). This has been dragging on for 1.5 weeks now...
This refers to http://www.customercommunicationscommunity.com
Two installs on the domain. In root, a standard wordpress installation.
In /blogs/wordpress-mu, Wordprress-MU.
1.5 weeks ago, I went for upgrading WP from 2.7.1 to 2.8
The upgrade failed halfway through, breaking the editor meaning that whilst possible to creat a page or post title it was impossible to save any of the post content.
I couldn't find a fix, so called in a PHP guy. He took a copy of the systems and tried to fix it. He has admitted defeat.
He told me to export the tables from the DB, remove the original wordpress and start with a fresh install. I'm happy to rebuild the theme, plugins etc as long as I can preserve the data - we're a daily news site publishing 5 - 15 posts / pages per day.
So what I did was create a new test directory - cccnewtest, installed wp there and then tried to import and attach the tables. The install worked as the standard SimpleScripts install. I dropped the tables in the new install and then uploaded the original SQL export. It didn't work.
I figured that this may be a directory issue. So I tried the same thing in the root directory (yes I know - that's why I'm commercial and not coding!), removed the old install, put a vanilla install in and tried imported the SQL file. Same thing again. Works as fresh install. Blank screen once the tables are attached.
So I thought that I would try getting to wp-admin - this time from the root install, it automatically goes to the /cccnewtest directory (which doesn't exist) and the has what appears to be a directory to open up wp-login back in the route. Which it fails to do.
So I tried to simplify things a bit. I took the original export file, exported only the core 10 tables that get created initially (it is the data that's important), and then went through the cycle of reimporting the core table (_wp10).
Still no luck.
In addition, Wordpress MU in /blogs/wordpress-mu has now started blanking. This hasn't been touched.
Been in touch with Bluehost. They say its not their issue.
Deep in it here as now at the full limits of my (perhaps dangerous knowledge).
Can anyone help - happy to allow access if you think you can fix it.
Also a cash bonus on production of an invoice if you can fix it as this is now a very critical issue for the business.
