   I have v2.8.4 and a while back tried to install a plugin but the auto install wouldn't work so I tried manual, but site crashed when I tried to activate.

   Now I try to install new v2.8.5 I click the upgrade automatically button the screen changes to "downloading upgrade" but never proceeds beyond that.

   Any ideas?

   Sure. I have an idea. Upgrade manually. You might get the upgrade to work by increasing memory limits though.

   Yeah the auto update is just a nice feature. I still find that one or two in my host of sites I keep up to date need it done manually.
