I have more questions about installing 3rd-party themes (3 posts)

    For context, here's a question I asked earlier, followed by an answer from a nice responder. Below that is my fresh question now. I appreciate any further insight anyone can give:

    =======================
    ORIGINAL QUESTION:
    I want my site to have the look and layout of a basic website instead of a blog without having to do too much modification on my part. It will function as my personal website with basic pages/sections (About me, works samples, etc) and I do not want a blogging function.

    Because I can't find any themes on Wordpress that fit this criteria, I want to upload one of many 3rd-party themes I've found on the web that fit my needs. But I'm not having any success with the installs.

    Wordpress will let me successfully install any theme that I find in the Wordpress Theme Directory (such as Arclite, currently: http://christy-robinson.com/). But when I try to upload a third party theme (always a .zip file), I always get the following return (bottom).

    I'm new to Wordpress and really appreciate your help. Thank you.

    (Here's the error message ...)

    Installing Theme from uploaded file: eston-gridlock-fa89070667b9d312f36a1cd98a1eeee40102cda3.zip

    Unpacking the package.

    Installing the theme.

    Theme Installed successfully.

    ANSWER:
    if that doesnt work, then upload the theme files manually (via FTP).

    Used an ftp client before? Used winzip?

    There you go.
    ==================

    NEW QUESTION:
    The themes I download are zipped. That will be the package that I ultimately upload/install, right? I don't have to unzip it or unload or repackage it? Secondly, I'm using godaddy.com, and I'm now looking at what I believe is the ftp (Hosting Control Center - File Manager). If this is not the same as ftp, should I sign up with something like FileZilla? If I AM headed in the right direction (with the Hosting Control Center), do I simply upload the zip file, or should I make sure I'm in the correct folder in the folder tree?

    No, you'll have to unzip it first. The resulting directory goes into wp-content/themes.

    Hosting Control Center - File Manager

    Instead of using FTP you can use the File Manager to upload the theme's files. Just make sure you unzip the theme first and then place it under wp-content/themes.

    Example: say you've downloaded LightWord, unzipping it results in a directory with a lot of PHP files. Upload this directory - i.e. lightword in this case - to the aforementioned theme folder.

    Once you've done that the theme should appear under "Appearance - Themes".
