   I tried upgrading automatically on RH EL 5 WS, but this would not work. I'll happily play around with settings if there are some instructions or suggestions, but using root and the root password resulted in an error.

   Then, I downloaded 2.8.2, and tried upgrading. I preserved my original wp-config file and copied the new tree into the apache's directory for wordpress (after backing up). When I ran wp-upgrade.php it said I didn't need to, but the web site said I needed to upgrade.

   What settings should I tweak, and is there an upgrade guide?

   I found and read readme.html, and essentially performed these exact instructions without having first read them. I still get the indicator saying I need to upgrade, even though running wp-admin/upgrade.php says I'm all upgraded.
